Airport Clearance

Airports often have favourable conditions for flocks of birds, this has implications for air safety which give rise to a need for bird control. Bird Strikes on aircraft are a worldwide phenomena and a hazard to aviation safety. Airports all over the world have a BCU (Bird Control Unit) which is a specially trained staff unit utilizing various different methods of bird control, such as, Bio – Acoustic Distress Calls, Bangers, Gas Cannons and Birds of Prey. Birds of Prey are a very effective method of airside bird control, especially when the correct Bird of Prey is introduced, an indigenous species that is the natural predator of the pest species that is causing the problem. Many of our staff has gone on to be valuable members of BCU staff members on airports around the world and we are very experienced in airside bird control.

Landfill Site Clearance

Bird Control is a very important aspect of the day to day running of modern waste facilities. This is due to the significant nuisance caused by scavenging birds. These birds can range over wide areas dropping litter and possibly transmitting diseases. This is a concern given the current climate of stricter public health regulations as well as the need to conform to EPA waste licences.

Birds of prey are a very effective deterrent when used as part of a managed ‘Bird Control Programme’, the reason being that they are at the Apex of the Avian Food Chain. When the correct Hawk or Falcon is used as part of a managed ‘Bird Control Programme’ it will have an immediate affect on the problem species which results in them being dispersed from the affected areas.

Commercial and Industrial Clearance

Many Industrial units and commercial/public buildings (factories, hotels, hospitals, office blocks etc.) suffer from infestations of pest birds. This is due to the shelter and food sources that they often provide. A bird population may however create a wide variety of health and safety issues that will need to be addressed.

Birds of Prey are natural predators and, unlike most forms of conventional bird control, present a real danger to pest birds. The threat that they pose means that pest species do not become desensitized as they do with conventional controls. This ensures that a professionally managed

Bird of Prey program can be used as an extremely effective means of Biological control.

Wildlife Management

We have seen an explosion in pest populations such as rabbits, grey squirrels, urban foxes and deer.

Rabbits due to there very nature are no stop burrowing machines which in turn can and do undermine buildings and cause structural damage, they are often found in and around equine facilities where the open burrows become a real hazard for horses which can often result in broken limbs, they also cause a major problem to commercial crops and nurseries where they can eat an emense amount of food in a very short space of time.

Grey Squirrels which are non indigenous spread disease to our native red squirrel population, as well causing damage to trees through striping the bark and also getting into attics and causing damage.

Urban foxes as well as being a main carrier of sarcoptic mange also spread many other disease which are a danger to humans and domestic pets, they also cause nuisance by digging under garden sheds, destroying flower beds and pulling out the contents of bins. Unlike there countryside counterparts who cause a lot of damage at lambing time by killing lambs.

Deer numbers have risen significantly in the past two years, they cause a lot of damage to fences, land, spread bovine TB and eat a lot of grass as well as cause crop damage. They are more and more being the cause of motor vehicle accidents.

If you have a problem with pre-for mentioned give us a call and we are sure we will have the solution for your pest problem.

Consultancy

We have been in the Bird Control industry for over 25 years now and have designed many effective Bird Control Programs and carry out all sorts of Consultancy work, such as Site Surveys, Bird Count Surveys and Environmental Surveys. We also run Environmental Management and Control Training Courses, which demonstrates the best methods of bird and pest prevention and how to minimise a bird or pest problem before it becomes a “Problem”.
